Bio Honig Neuss: A Beekeeper's Passion for Tradition and Modernity

The roots of Bio Honig Neuss date back to the 1850s. Even then, the company’s founder, Karl I. Schubert, would travel frequently to the Bad Muskau region to harvest the exquisite organic heather honey. He also ventured into the honey-producing areas of Brandenburg’s indescribably beautiful countryside to collect organic rapeseed honey.

About 100 years later, the company had already become a pillar of the economy in the former GDR. Beekeeping was, after all, an important part of it.

“The purpose of beekeeping is to improve the supply of honey to the population from domestic sources and to secure and increase yields in fruit, oilseed, and seed production through the contractual use of bee colonies for pollination,” wrote the editor of Imkerliche Fachkunde from the VEB Deutscher Landwirtschaftsverlag Berlin in 1974.

Even back then, the Bio- und Apitherapie-Imkerei Schubert-Jansen beekeeping operation was already serving both people and bees well with its organic honey. That has not changed to this day. With the transition to organic beekeeping, including organic honey and apitherapy certification, we are living up to our own commitment to always operate the beekeeping operation in harmony with nature.

Currently, generations V, VI, and VII—Karl Schubert (born 1950), Andrea Schubert-Jansen (born 1977), Uwe Jansen (born 1970), and Joel Jansen (born 2008)—work together at Bio Honig Neuss. We produce not only sustainable and delicious organic honey, but also organic honey candles. Everything is made from our own organic wax and crafted by hand. True to our motto: “Ubi apis – ibi salus” – “Where there are bees, there is health!”

In doing so, we combine our passion for beekeeping with tradition and modern scientific knowledge. Sustainability is the future; standing still is a step backward.
